World Alzheimer’s Day

Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, and September marks World Alzheimer’s Month.

For a long time, getting answers about Alzheimer’s meant undergoing a brain imaging scan or spinal fluid test – neither of which could be done in a typical primary care visit. That created real gaps in care, especially in rural and community settings like ours.

That’s beginning to change. Researchers have developed blood tests that measure proteins in the body linked to Alzheimer’s-related changes in the brain. Accuracy in clinical studies has been high, and the FDA cleared the first blood-based test in 2025; a meaningful step toward making earlier answers more accessible, no matter where someone receives care.
