Phlebotomy is the collection of blood samples used for laboratory testing. Lab tests, ordered by physicians, are a key component to diagnosing and treating patients. Phlebotomists are in demand for positions in laboratories, hospitals, clinics and physician offices.
Interpath Laboratory is currently taking applications for our fall phlebotomy class. Applications are available at 2460 SW Perkins Ave, Pendleton, OR or fill out this Phlebotomy Training Program Application.
- Be 18 years of age or older, include a copy of drivers license or passport (to show proof of age)
- Have a high school diploma or GED, include copy of transcript/diploma
- Provide three letters of recommendation
- Have proof of Hepatitis B vaccination or a signed declination form
- Submit completed application by September, 1, 2014, which includes a written motivational essay
Fall Term begins September 29, 2014. Classes are held Tuesday/Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm. Cost of the class is $450.00 + text book fee (approximately $70.00). All fees must be paid by September 26, 2014. Students may cancel enrollment by giving written notice by October 6, 2014, after which time all fees are non-refundable.
The course is offered in two parts: 8 week/40 hour of classes consisting of lecture that covers principles of all phlebotomy and lab to learn basic skills of phlebotomy, using mannequin and fellow students.
The second part of the course is the optional practicum training. Students will receive guidance with a clinical instructor while drawing real patients. Practicum is offered as 100 hours to be completed within 20 weeks following class. Students must receive a minimum C+ (75%) average and successfully perform 5 phlebotomy procedures to proceed to the practicum training.
