Specimen:

Collect

  • Two Gray Top

Also Acceptable:
  • Two Green Top (Na Heparin)
  • Two Lavender (EDTA)
  • One Pink Top (EDTA)
  • One Red Top

Submit

  • 4 mL (Min:3 mL) Plasma . Submit Refrigerated. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Also Acceptable:
  • 4 mL (Min:3 mL) Serum . Submit Refrigerated. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Special Handling

  • Avoid Repeated Freeze/Thaw Cycles
  • Separate from cells ASAP
  • Also acceptable: Serum
    Note: Cocaine and cocaethylene are more stable in fluoride-preserved plasma than serum.
    Screen-positive specimens are automatically confirmed by GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS. Additional charges will apply.

Rejection Criteria

  • Hemolyzed specimens
  • Use of separator tubes
