Collect

  • Genital Swab in Viral Transport Media

Submit

  • One Genital Swab in Viral Transport Media. Submit Refrigerated.

Special Handling

  • Alternate specimen: Cervical, eye, rectal, urethral swab, or peritoneal fluid. Also acceptable for newborns: Nasopharyngeal aspirate, swab or washing.

    Transfer specimen immediately to Chlamydia transport media (UTM). For further information call Client Services at 1(800)700-6891.

    Place each specimen in an individually sealed bag.

    Limited stability; sample must reach lab same day it is collected.

Rejection Criteria

  • Calcium alginate swabs
  • Dry Swab
  • Urine
  • Wood Swabs
  • Specimens not preserved in Chlamydia culture transport media.
