Specimen:Collect:
  • One Green Top (Li Heparin)

Also Acceptable:
  • One Green Top (Na Heparin)
Submit:
  • 0.5 mL (Min:0.3 mL) Plasma . Submit Frozen.
Special Handling:
  • Critical Frozen
  • Fasting Specimen is Preferred
  • Place specimen in ice bath immediately after collecting. Centrifuge, transfer plasma and freeze within 1 hour of collection. Transfer plasma to an Amber Transport Tube.
    Thawing and refreezing of the specimen and exposure to light will result in decreased Vitamin C concentration.
Rejection Criteria:
  • Body fluids, specimens not protected from light, grossly hemolyzed plasma, non-frozen specimens. Blood collection tube types other than green (sodium or lithium heparin).
