Specimen:

Collect

  • One SST

Also Acceptable:
  • One Red Top

Submit

  • 1 mL (Min:0.4 mL) Serum . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Special Handling

  • Separate aliquot required for each frozen test ordered
  • Separate from cells ASAP
  • Separate from cells within 2 hours of collection
  • Critical Frozen: Freeze serum within 30 minutes

    Note: Cytokine levels may demonstrate diurnal variation. For longitudinal comparison, it is recommended that cytokine levels be determined at the same time of day.

  • Heat inactivated
  • Contaminated specimens
    Refrigerated specimens
