Specimen:

Collect

  • Timed Stool in Timed Fecal Fat Container

Submit

  • 20 mL Aliquot(s) Timed Stool in Sterile Specimen Container. Submit Frozen.

Special Handling

  • Keep Specimen Refrigerated During Collection
  • The patient should be on a diet consisting of 50 to 150g of fat per day for 3 days prior to the study. Non-absorbable fat substitutes, such as Olestra, should be avoided prior to collection.
    Send to PEN refrigerated (not frozen).
    72 HR Stool Collection Preferred.
    48 HR or 24 HR Stool Collections are also acceptable.
    State duration of collection and total weight of sample.
    Weigh entire collection. Homogenize entire collection (using a graduated cylinder, add sufficient water to give "milk shake" consistency) and aliquot 20 mL (20 g) to a clean, unpreserved vial.
