Specimen:

Collect

  • One SST

Also Acceptable:
  • One Lavender (EDTA)
  • One Red Top

Submit

  • 1 mL (Min:0.6 mL) Serum . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Also Acceptable:
  • 1 mL (Min:0.6 mL) Plasma . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Special Handling

  • Protect from Light
  • Separate aliquot required for each frozen test ordered
  • Draw specimen following an overnight (12-hour) fast. Patient should not consume alcohol for one day prior to blood draw.
    Separate serum or plasma from cells within 1 hour of collection. Protect from light during collection, storage, and shipment.

Rejection Criteria

  • Hemolyzed specimens
  • Lipemic Samples
  • Any specimen other than serum or EDTA plasma.
