Collect
- One Blue Top (Na Citrate)
- One Lavender (EDTA)
- One SST
Also Acceptable:
- One Pink Top (EDTA)
- One Red Top
Submit
- 3 mL (Min:1.5 mL) Serum . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.
- 1 mL (Min:0.5 mL) Plasma . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.
- 3 mL (Min:1 mL) Whole blood in Lavender (EDTA). Submit Refrigerated.
Special Handling
- Patient Preparation: Include an automated platelet count results for Platelet count with Transportation log to ARUP. Platelet count should be performed on the EDTA whole blood sample at the client site within 3 days of submission for testing.
Do not send the EDTA whole blood to ARUP.
Specimen Preparation: Separate serum and citrated plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Do not send the EDTA whole blood to ARUP.
Transfer 3 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 1.2 mL)
Transfer 1 mL platelet-poor citrated plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube (Min: 0.5 mL)
