  • Blood Culture Bottle

Submit

  • Blood in Blood Culture Bottle. Submit Ambient.

Special Handling

  • Special blood culture bottles are required. Decontaminate skin with 70% alcohol followed by providone-iodine preparation. Allow disinfectant to remain on skin at least 2 minutes. After puncture site is disinfected, do not touch site. Collect 5-10 mL (0.5 - 4 mL for pediatrics) blood for each bottle required using a syringe. Decontaminate top of culture bottle and transfer blood into it. Site of specimen draw is required (e.g. left antecubital, A-line, etc).

Rejection Criteria

  • Specimen not submitted at room temperature
