  • Body Fluid in Sterile Specimen Container
Submit:
  • One Culturette-Anaerobic. Submit Ambient.

Also Acceptable:
  • 2 mL (Min:1 mL) Body Fluid in Sterile Specimen Container. Submit Ambient.
Special Handling:
  • State Source
  • Anaerobic/Aerobic culturette sources include:deep wounds, abscesses and body fluids.
    If aspirate is made with a needle and syringe, specimen may be put into a sterile (urine) container.Do not send the syringe or needle.
Rejection Criteria:
  • Leaking Container
  • Organisms submitted in liquid media
  • Specimens that contain normal or transient anerobic flora are not suitable for anerobic culture. These include: Throat, nasopharnygeal, sputum, urogentital, urine, feces, superficial wounds and specimens from sites contaminated with intestinal contents.
