Collect

  • One Blood Culture Bottle-Aerobic
  • One Blood Culture Bottle-Anaerobic

Submit

  • Two Blood in Blood Culture Bottle. Submit Ambient.

Special Handling

  • OBSERVE STRICT COLLECTION PROCEDURE!
    Special blood culture bottles are required. Saturate the tip with ChloraPrep by gently pressing it against the treatment area.
    Using a back and forth friction scrubbing motion, completely wet the treatment area for 30 seconds. Allow the prepped area to dry completely, approximately 30 seconds. After puncture site is disinfected, do not touch site. Collect 5-10 mL (0.5 - 4 mL for pediatrics) blood for each bottle required using a syringe. Decontaminate top of culture bottle and transfer blood into it. Indicate collection site.

Blood Cultures are routinely incubated in a continuous monitoring automated instrument. Positive results will be reported and called as soon as they become available. Negative results are reported after 5 days of incubation.
