Specimen:Collect:
  • Synovial Fluid in One Green Top (Na Heparin)
  • Synovial Fluid in One Lavender (EDTA)
  • Synovial Fluid in One SST

Also Acceptable:
  • Synovial Fluid in One Sterile Specimen Container
Submit:
  • 4 mL (Min:1 mL) Synovial Fluid in Lavender (EDTA). Submit Refrigerated.
  • 4 mL (Min:1 mL) Synovial Fluid in Green Top (Li Heparin). Submit Refrigerated.
  • 8 mL (Min:1 mL) Synovial Fluid in SST. Submit Refrigerated.
  • 4 mL (Min:1 mL) Synovial Fluid in Green Top (Na Heparin). Submit Refrigerated.

Also Acceptable:
  • 8 mL (Min:4 mL) Synovial Fluid in Sterile Specimen Container. Submit Refrigerated.
Special Handling:
  • Glucose levels only stable 2 hrs refrigerated if sample is bloody. Bloody samples in SST should be centrifuged and fluid separated from cells.
Rejection Criteria:
  • Clotted Specimen
  • Do NOT send sample in syringe with needle attached.
