This assay was performed by Cepheid GeneXpert PCR, which detects the gene marker for toxin B-producing C. difficile strain and presumptive identification of 027/NAP1/BI. (Binary toxin and tcdC)

This test is only for use with liquid or soft stool. Performance characteristics of other clinical specimen types have not been established.

Performance characteristics were not established for patients <2 years of age.
