Collect

  • One Lavender (EDTA)

Also Acceptable:
  • One Pink Top (EDTA)

Submit

  • 1 mL (Min:0.5 mL) Plasma . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Special Handling

  • Avoid Repeated Freeze/Thaw Cycles
  • EDTA whole blood is stable 7 hours ambient or refrigerated. If testing delayed more than 7 hours - separate plasma and freeze.

  • Grossly Hemolyzed Samples

A BNP level >100 pg/mL is associated with the presence of congestive heart failure in patients 55 years or older. Correlation with other historical, physical and X-ray findings is required.
