  • 5 mL (Min:1 mL) Random Urine in Sterile Specimen Container. Submit Refrigerated.

Special Handling

  • First morning urine is the preferred specimen as it usually contains the highest concentration of beta-hCG; however any specimen is suitable for testing.

Interpretive Data


False negative results may occur when HCG levels are below the sensitivity level of the test. (20 mIU/mL)
When pregnancy is still suspected, retest in 48 hours.
Ectopic pregnancy may produce very low levels of HCG, if suspected, further testing using a quantitative method may be desirable.
