Specimen:

Collect

  • One Lavender (EDTA)
  • One SST

Also Acceptable:
  • One Pink Top (EDTA)
  • One Red Top

Submit

  • 2 mL (Min:1.5 mL) Serum . Submit Refrigerated.
  • 4 mL (Min:1.5 mL) Whole blood in 4 mL Lavender (EDTA). Submit Refrigerated.

Special Handling

  • Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature
  • Avoid Repeated Freeze/Thaw Cycles
  • Separate from cells ASAP
  • ESR sample must be refrigerated and reach laboratory within 12 hours.

Rejection Criteria

  • Grossly Hemolyzed Samples
  • Grossly Lipemic Samples
  • Heat inactivated
  • Microbially Contaminated
  • Particulate matter
