Specimen:
  Collect: One 4 mL Lavender (EDTA)

One 6 mL Pink Top (EDTA) 
  Submit: 3 mL (Min:1 mL) Whole blood. Submit Frozen.  
  Special Handling: Critical Frozen
Separate aliquot required for each frozen test ordered
Place sample on ice. Immediately transfer whole blood to Serotonin transfer tube containing ascorbic acid.
Freeze sample within 2 hours of collection.
Patient prep: Abstain from medications for 72 hours prior to collection.
Medications that may affect results: lithium, MAO inhibitors,methyldopa, morphine and reserpine. 
  Rejection Criteria: Samples not submitted in Serotonin transfer tubes
