Specimen:

Collect:

One 4 mL Lavender (EDTA)

Also Acceptable
One 6 mL Pink Top (EDTA)

Submit:

2 mL (Min:1.5 mL) Plasma. Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Special Handling:

Avoid Repeated Freeze/Thaw Cycles
Critical Frozen
Pediatric collection requirement: min. 0.6 mL
Separate aliquot required for each frozen test ordered
Separate from cells ASAP
If supine: Collect between 8-10am after patient has been supine for at least 2 hours
If upright: Collect before noon after patient has be upright for at least 2 hours.
Patient should be a normal sodium diet (100-200 mEq/day) and not on medications known to affect renin-aldosterone system

Collected in Citrate, Heparin or Oxalate
Hemolyzed specimens
Serum
Specimens collected in refrigerated tubes.
