2180      Dexamethasone Suppression Test
Specimen:
  Collect: Two 6 mL Red Top  
  Submit: Two 1 mL (Min:0.5 mL) Serum. Submit Refrigerated. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.  
  Special Handling: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature
Avoid Repeated Freeze/Thaw Cycles
Separate from cells ASAP
Draw pre-cortisol on day one. Have patient take oral dose of dexamethasone (prescription given by physician) at midnight, draw sample at 8:00 a.m. on day two. 
  Rejection Criteria: Use of separator tubes
Clearly mark specimen one "pre-cortisol", and specimen two "post-cortisol" 
  Stability: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 7 Day(s); Frozen: 3 Month(s); Incubated: Unacceptable
