Phlebotomy Training Program

Phlebotomy is the collection of blood samples used for laboratory testing. Lab tests, ordered by physicians, are a key component to diagnosing and treatment of patients. Phlebotomists are in demand for positions in laboratories, hospitals, clinics and physician offices.

Interpath Laboratory is currently taking applications for our fall phlebotomy class. Applications are available at 1100 Southgate, Pendleton, OR, or click here to download.

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older, include copy of drivers license or passport (to show proof of age)
  • Have a high school diploma or GED, include copy of transcript/diploma
  • Provide three letters of recommendation
  • Have proof of Hepatitis B vaccination or a signed declination form
  • Submit completed application by August 20,2010, which includes a written motivational essay

The course is offered in two parts: 10 week/60 hour of classes consisting of lecture that covers principles of phlebotomy and lab to learn basic skills of phlebotomy, using mannequin and fellow students. Fall term begins on September 28, 2010. Classes are held Tuesday/Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm. Cost of the class is $450.00 + text book fee (approximately $60.00). All fees must be paid by September 24, 2010. Students may cancel enrollment by giving written notice by October 4, 2010, after which time all fees are non-refundable.

The second part of the course is the optional practicum training. Students will receive guidance with a clinical instructor while drawing real patients in. Practicum is offered as 40 hours (to be completed within 10 weeks following class) or 100 hours (within 20 weeks). Students must receive a minimum C+ (75%) average and successfully perform 5 phlebotomy procedures to proceed to the practicum training.
